Our commitment
Gnarly Tees is committed to making www.gnarlytees.com usable by everyone, including people who browse with screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, screen magnification, or other assistive technology. We treat accessibility as an ongoing responsibility, not a one-time project.
Standard we work to
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. These guidelines are published by the World Wide Web Consortium and are the standard most commonly referenced in accessibility law and policy.
What we have done
In August 2026 we rebuilt the site on a modern theme and carried out a source-level accessibility remediation. We did not install an accessibility overlay or widget, because those sit on top of a website without changing the underlying code. We changed the code itself.
Specific work completed:
- Pinch-to-zoom is enabled on mobile. The previous theme blocked it, which prevented people with low vision from enlarging any page.
- Every page now has a single, correct top-level heading, and headings follow a logical order.
- Invalid ARIA markup was removed from the site header and from pagination controls, so screen readers announce navigation correctly.
- Text and interface colours were adjusted to meet or exceed the 4.5:1 contrast ratio required for body text.
- Images load progressively and carry alternative text.
- Motion-based scroll animations were switched off.
Following this work, automated testing using axe-core against WCAG 2.2 Level A and AA rules returned zero violations on our home page, collection pages, product pages, search results, the cart, and error pages.
Known limitations
We want to be straightforward about what we have not yet verified:
- Automated testing has limits. Tools like the one we used detect roughly 30–40% of accessibility issues. A manual audit using screen readers is planned and has not yet been completed.
- Checkout and customer accounts are hosted by Shopify at checkout.shopify.com and account.gnarlytees.com. These pages are built and maintained by Shopify rather than by us. Shopify publishes its own accessibility information.
- Third-party content. Some features on our site are provided by outside apps and services. We work with these providers on accessibility but do not control their code directly.
Tell us about a barrier
If any part of this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, we want to hear about it, and we will help you complete your purchase by another route in the meantime.
- Email: hello@gnarlytees.com
- Mail: Gnarly Tees, 2040 Coral Street, Pensacola, FL 32506
Please tell us the page address and what happened. We aim to respond within five business days. If you contact us about a barrier that is preventing you from ordering, we will take your order directly by email.
Ongoing work
We re-test the site regularly and keep a dated record of what we find and fix. Accessibility feedback from customers is reviewed and acted on as part of that process.
